North Hertfordshire, Hertfordshire Council – Discretionary Housing Payments

Provided that you are already entitled to Housing Benefit or a Housing Element of Universal Credit, a Discretionary Housing Payment (DHP) can be requested. A DHP is designed to assist if you need further financial assistance to help meet your rent. A discretionary housing payment can be requested for any reason that makes it difficult for you to meet your rent. Discretionary housing payments are paid from a cash-limited budget allocated to the Council by the Government. Because of the limited amount of money available, there is no guarantee that all applications will be successful. For this reason, the Council will usually give preference to applications where there are exceptional circumstances. https://www.north-herts.gov.uk/home/benefits/discretionary-housing-payments
